Amazon builds dedicated delivery network for large appliances and furniture
Amazon is witnessing increasing demands for large appliances and furniture in recent times which led it to have dedicated warehouse and delivery channels. Amazon India has recently invested in 6 specialized fulfilment centres for large appliances and furniture across Coimbatore, Lucknow, Mumbai, Pune, Mumbai, Gurugram, and Bhopal.
This investment aims to cater to the increasing demand for appliances like AC, coolers, refrigerators, washing machines, big furniture etc. It has also proceeded to expand its existing storage capacity in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Ludhiana, and Ahmedabad. As of now, the company has 200 delivery centres, 60 of which are dedicated for large appliances and furniture. Also, it has enabled installation services for more than 200 cities. The brands serviced include LG, BPL, Whirlpool, Bosch, Haier and others.
According to Akhil Saxena, VP, India fulfilment centre, Amazon, this investment allows a better connect with the customers offering faster delivery. He stated that, “We have doubled our storage space, delivery station network and cities we deliver to in just this one year to support the growth of these categories. With a total of 62 fulfilment centres having a storage capacity of 18.5 million cubic feet, we continue to have the largest fulfilment infrastructure in the industry,”
The category leader for Amazon appliances, Suchit Subhas, stated that “Our investments in infrastructure, installation services and sound finance options have led to changes in customer behaviour and adoption of online shopping for Large appliances and Furniture. With this infrastructure addition we want to extend scheduled and next day delivery to more customers.”
With this new investment, Amazon.in has now a specialized network of 15CFs spread over 1.3 million Sqfeet of storage space. The 60 specialized delivery stations for appliances and furniture will cater to over 400 cities in India.
