Smartphone sales maximum on online platforms with FlipKart leading among all


A recent report reveals that first quarter of 2018 has seen a maximum sale of smartphones on online portals accounting for 38% of total sale. The figure is definitely the result of the exclusive online launch of new phones, exceptional offers and discounts and strong promotions done on online portals.

According to a report from Counterpoint Research, the maximum sale of 54% took place on Flipkart, followed by Amazon with 30% sale and with 14% market share. Among the phone brands, Xiomi led the sales with 57% share followed by Samsung with 14% share and Honor with 8% share.

The research analyst at CounterPoint revealed that eCommerce has expanded faster than the offline medium for smartphones. While online sales grew by 4%, the offline sales declined by 3%. The reason behind this figure is a number of models that are being first launched in the online medium. Not only this, the smartphone companies are also relying on different channels of distribution that being limited to unidirectional sales medium.

A number close to 30 exclusive varieties of phones was launched online in the first quarter of 2018. Some attractive full-screen displays, high capacity batteries, and AI features like face recognition were some of the differentiating features of these new launches. It is interesting to know that Huawei Honor 9 Lite was one of the top five models that slowed down the sale of Xiomi’s sale.
